Airstream Life

photos, videos, and blogs about the Airstream lifestyle

Alright, we are officially Airstreaming.
We left Chandler, spent the night in Maricopa with our friends, and then headed off the next day to Joshua Tree.
Frank and I aren't totally in sync yet. It usually takes a couple of set-ups and tear-downs till we get it figured out. I've apparently forgotten the hand signals when I'm backing up. Oh well. There was one I recognized. The international symbol, for "you're number one"- yeah that one.
We came off the I-10 and stopped at Cottonwood campground for the night. It was really nice, super quiet, super dark. We met a couple doing the road warrior thing too, in a cool little RV. (I'll put up the pics).
The sites are rather shallow, and there are no hookups, but it was only $15 and the views are amazing.
Maya went adventuring through the desert. I told her some bike tracks were snake tracks and she was happy following those along for as far as we could go.
Monkey had several encounters with the cholla, but she is okay.
The second night we moved up to Jumbo Rock and it was super cool. Our batteries finally gave out and you can only run the generators for 2 hours, 3 times a day. So we had to make a trip to town. On the way back we stopped at Keys View, which was cool. They say you can see Mexico on a clear day. But I don't when the last time there was a clear day in Southern California. Anyway, I would say for the first couple of days we are doing very well. We are all happy to be back in our tin can, as it were. Every time we stopped for gas and got back in the truck Maya would ask if the trailer was coming with us. I love that she loves the trailer as much as we do.
Right now we are at the Banning KOA. We are back in civilization, internet, cable tv, and phone service. It is nice being unplugged for a couple days, but we can't do it all the time.
So we are here for a couple more days. Frank goes to Riverside next week, so we'll start heading over this weekend. We don't have far to go which is nice. Even though it's Riverside. Hmmm. We shall see.
