Hi Tess,
I could write a short book on what you intend to do. I've been across country quite a few times. We have 3 dogs, 2 are rescues. I do volunteer work for www.smalldogrescue.org just north of me in Chico. I also do volunteer work with Compassion Without Borders www.cwob.org who do the actual rescues. My 2 year old poodle/bijon was 3-4 minutes from being electrocuted in a starvation pound in Juarez, Mexico. He was blind. We got him, he had eye surgery 6 weeks ago and sees 100%. The other rescue is a lasso/skye terrier that was rescued from a no-kill shelter in Mexico City. You will see that on the cwob site. She is 2 years old. Our third dog is a shitzhu who is 8 years old and a rescue. We have an 18 year old cat, too. All of us leave June 10 and will travel thru Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, and into Nebraska where I went to college and have some friends/relatives to see. Then we will go to NW Nebraska into Powell, Wyoming and stay a couple of weeks exploring the Pryor and Bighorn Mountains. From there, on into Montana and to Flathead Lake at Polson. From there, on to Lake Pend Orielle at Sandpoint, Idaho, then to Spokane, down to Portland, and eventually home. We live in Lincoln, just outside Sacramento. We'll be gone 2 months. Hobbies are digital photography, ham radio, kayaking, dog rescue work, metal detecting, and fantisizing about travel the rest of the time. My wife and I are both retired teachers but she has gone back into the classroom and is teaching 1st grade again. I would love to talk to you. I applaud you taking your dad on such a trip. I lost my dad 3 years ago at age 98. It was the consumate traveler (it's in the genes) and in his last year, I spent a lot of time taking care of him and doing some traveling while my mother stayed in a care facility with Alzheimer's. If you want to talk sometime, call me and I'll give you my 2-cents on what to see on your trip.

planning my first trip with the airstream across country in June. Starting in Fl, visiting daughter in denver then picking my granddaughter up in San diego returning back to florida. Taking my 3 dogs and 85 year young dad. Any ideas on roads and places to stay away from? dad wants to see the wild west!
